L-1 Visa is for executives, managers, and specialized knowledge workers from multinational and international organizations. And L-2 Visa for Dependents of L-1 visa holders
L-1 Visa is for executives, managers, and specialized knowledge workers from multinational and international organizations.
This visa allows global companies to transfer its foreign employees to their U.S. office. This visa also enables foreign entrepreneurs who own businesses abroad to transfer themselves as executives or managers and develop their business in the United States.
To obtain an L1 visa, before filing a petition, a foreign citizen had to work abroad in the relevant organization for one year continuously for the past three years. Only an annual L-1 visa is issued to a foreign citizen working in a “new” company doing business in the United States for less than one year. After a year, proof is needed that the business is continuing and can justify the need for an employee.
Within the L-1 Visa, because of those work positions that employees can take, there are two sub-categories of visas:
L-1A Visa for managers and executives
L-1B Visa for specialized knowledge job positions
L-2 Visa for Dependents of L-1 visa holders
The spouse or unmarried child under 21 years old can join the L-1 visa holder as a dependent on an L-2 visa
With an L-2 dependency visa, you can study in the US, get a driver’s license, open a bank account, travel (and other benefits) as long as your visa is valid.
The visa validity, options of extension or renewal, as well as change of status depend on the L-1 person, because your visa status is directly tiedto the primary holder.
